Why it matters

In Smith County, Texas, people in the jail grow a garden and give all of the produce to the East Texas Food Bank — more than 160,000 pounds by the food bank CEO’s estimate. Garland County, Arkansas’s detention center works with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture and donates produce to a food bank. We ask Jackson County to start an optional jail garden with its Extension office.

What’s happened

Raised by residents — not yet carried to the county.

This is a petition to your elected officials — like the clipboard at the courthouse door. It does not put anything on the ballot; in Arkansas and most states that takes ink signatures from registered voters. Signatures are counted, not verified — one per browser; the delivered copy removes duplicates. Like everything here, petitions can’t campaign for candidates or ballot measures, or name county staff.
